Transition

Transition

To High School

Students who are transitioning from primary school or another school to Blayney High Support Classes are offered additional transition opportunities to help familiarise them with staff, school facilities and learning environments as well as school routines.

Student who are transitioning from primary school are offered graduated visits to the Support Unit and some mainstream classes throughout term 4 in the year preceding their enrolment. This allows students to build confidence and gives staff the chance to get to know them, their learning styles and build meaningful connections with each student. Students will participate in weekly visits for approximately seven weeks, starting with morning visits and gradually extending their visits to full days by the end of the sixth week. If students require any further transition, this can also be arranged.

To Employment or Further Education

To facilitate a smooth transition from school to employment or further study we provide students with a variety of opportunities to visit potential workplaces and educational institutions. These opportunities are in the form of excursions, guided tours, work readiness programs and work placements. The aim is to allow students to gain insight into future opportunities that are available and to create links with employers and education providers. They also allow students to build familiarity with new environments and help them to build the skills and knowledge they will need in these settings.
