Chemistry

In the Preliminary Course students will explore:

  • How the elements from the periodic table combine to create the world in which we live.
  • The importance of metals in our everyday life.
  • How water has enabled us to survive.
  • How energy can be used and stored in chemical compounds.

In the HSC Course, students extend their knowledge and skills to investigate:

  • How we have manipulated chemical reactions to create new materials.
  • The importance of acids and bases in our lives.
  • How to monitor and protect ourselves from dangerous chemicals in our environment.

Students then have the opportunity to choose an option of interest that will extend their knowledge of a particular section of the core topics.
