Food Technology

At Blayney High School students will have the opportunity to work practically in our school’s commercial kitchen, be involved with community events and our local food industry to learn about food preparation, production and processing. Students will develop fundamental culinary skills, as well as learning from the NSW syllabus outcomes.
Stage 5
Stage 5   - Food technology focuses on exploring food-related issues through practical experiences, teaching students about food properties, processing, and preparation, and developing their ability to design, produce, and evaluate food solutions. Students learn about nutrition, food safety and hygiene, the Australian food industry, food trends, and the societal and environmental impacts of food production. The goal is for students to make informed choices about food, apply critical thinking, and develop the confidence to design and produce high-quality food products.
Stage 6
Stage 6   - Food Technology Stage 6 is a course that develops students' knowledge of food systems, practical skills in food preparation and development, and an understanding of the Australian food industry, nutrition, and contemporary food issues. The course covers food properties, the design process, food processing, and marketing, with integrated practical experiences in planning, preparing, and presenting food. Students learn to make informed decisions about food and contribute to society's social and economic future through developing practical and theoretical skills.
