Library

The School library is a resource centre for both students and staff. The collection exists to support literacy within teaching and learning programs of the school, as well as for access to information and recreational readers.

Monday-Friday 9:00am - 3:30pm

Lunch: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1:20pm - 1:40pm

Use of the Library

Technical Support

Mrs Kylie Pay, the Technical Support Officer (TSO) is located in the library. Kylie is available Monday - Thursday to assist with student logins and school devices. Assistance with BYOD devices is limited to internet connection at school and school software only. BYOD Hardware issues will need to be dealt with externally from the school.

Borrowing

Blayney High School uses Oliver, a secure, web-based library management system used by all NSW public schools. Through Oliver, students and staff can easily search and manage both physical and digital resources. Students access Orbit, a safe, interactive portal for borrowing and tracking loans, while teachers can integrate library resources with curriculum content.

Oliver enables simultaneous searching of the school library and selected external resources, providing 24/7 access to support digital literacy and independent learning through Single Sign-On.

Students in Years 7–10 borrow from a wide range of genres that support the Renaissance Reading program run by the English faculty.

Students in Year 7-12 may loan up to 2 ebooks at the one time. The borrowing period for almost all re-sources is 3 weeks.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The school actively promotes and participates in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, encouraging students to develop a lifelong love of reading.

Photocopier

A free photocopier is available in the library.

Students should only use it for:

· Personal research copies

· Printing set tasks or school assignments

Senior Student Support Programs Offered in the Library

Mentor Program

Blayney High School’s Senior Mentor Program provides academic, social, and personal support for students during the senior years.

  • Personalised Matching: Students nominate a preferred staff mentor while staff self-nominate to participate.
  • Regular Check-Ins: Mentors meet with students at least fortnightly, offering guidance and encouragement.

Working Wednesdays

When seniors have no scheduled classes or TAFE commitments, they can spend the day in the library on a Wednesday for focused study. Benefits include:

  • Independent study time for assessments and revision
  • Access to library resources and staff support
  • Quiet, distraction-free environment
  • Opportunities for collaborative work on group projects
  • Flexibility to manage learning independently, fostering responsibility and accountability

Learning Centre / Study Lessons

During free periods or Distance Education classes, seniors attend supervised study sessions in the library. Key features:

  • Access to computers, internet, and reference materials
  • Academic support from staff and opportunities for peer collaboration
  • Builds study habits, time management, and skills for tertiary education
  • Supports diverse learning needs and boosts confidence
