Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA)
CAPA, or Creative and Performing Arts, is a learning area that allows students to explore and develop skills in various art forms such as Drama, Dance, Music, Visual Arts, Visual Design, Photography, and Video/Digital Media.
The program focuses on hands-on creation, performance, and analysis, fostering creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills valuable in many areas of life and work.
Dance
Blayney High runs comprehensive Dance curricula and extra-curricular Dance programs.
Dance Curriculum:
Dance is offered as an elective subject in Year 9 and 10.
Dance is also offered in Year 11 and 12 as an HSC subject.
The school is also offering the VET Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching.
Extra-Curricular Dance Program
The school offers an extra-curricular Dance Ensemble Program with excursion for skilled and enthusiastic dance students. The emphasis of the program is to support High Potential and Gifted students access to extend their interest and ability in Dance.

Music
Students engage with the elements of music through performing, listening and composing a range of musical repertoire. They develop musical literacies as they sing, play instruments, improvise, compose, read notations, record, analyse and appreciate music, enabling the development of aural and theoretical skills. Engagement with the expressive, cultural and aesthetic value of music enriches students’ musical understanding, supports them to appreciate music more deeply and enhances the development of their creative thinking and expression.
Extra curricular opportunities available at Blayney High include the rock band program and Vocal group, as well as performance opportunities including Schools Spectacular, Blayney High Showcase, HSC and Elective Music nights as well as local community performance opportunities.
Stage 5 Music
Stage 5
The study of Music in Years 7–10 supports intellectual stimulation, neurological development, exploration of values, development of creativity and the expression of emotion. It combines the development of affective, cognitive, psychomotor, personal and social competencies in the act of making, understanding, appreciating and enjoying music. The transferable skills developed through the study of Music support students to follow a broad range of pathways and professions.
Stage 6 Music 1 Course
Stage 6 - Music 1 course
Music 1 provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes within a broad musical context and encourage the desire to continue learning in formal and informal music settings after school. Students continue to develop their skills in performance, composition and aural tasks, delving into more complex musical analysis. The course allows for the expression of the intellect, imagination and emotion, the exploration of values, and fosters an understanding of continuity and change, as well as the connections between different times and cultures.
Visual Arts
Students studying Visual Arts at Blayney High School engage in a range of fun, challenging activities designed to foster their creative potential.
Tasks are differentiated in Stage 4 to cater for all ability levels allowing talented students to still excel.
Within Stages 5 and 6 students will engage in more specific activities designed to develop skill and conceptual value within their practice.
Students will work to learn the basic elements and principles of Art through a range of activities including traditional drawing and painting, sculpture or making short film, working in the functioning Photographic darkroom or firing their ceramic wares within our school kiln.
Consistently, students have been selected for ARTEXPRESS and have accepted entry to The National Art School and other reputable tertiary institutions because of studying Visual Arts at Blayney High School.
