Additional learning support

At Blayney High School, we are committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. Our Additional Learning Support program is designed to provide individualised support to students who may face learning difficulties and require extra help to fully engage with the curriculum and achieve their educational goals. Whether students need assistance with literacy, numeracy, organisation, or study skills, our dedicated educators work closely with students to develop personalised strategies and support plans. We foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel confident and empowered to achieve their own educational goals. Some of the supports can include disability support, specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D), Life Skills Pathways, Out of Home Care student support (OoHC), small group tuition and individualised tutoring for targeted literacy and numeracy development.

Personalised Learning and Education Plans
We work closely with students, parents, external providers and teachers to develop individualised learning plans that address individual strengths, challenges, and learning styles. These plans ensure support is tailored to student needs and outlines strategies and adjustments for students to thrive in the classroom. Some examples of adjustments and provisions available: simplification of assessment tasks, small group supervision and rest breaks in examination environments, additional time, SLSO assistance, accessible classrooms, assistive technology, instructional resources, word banks, essay scaffolding and many more.
Literacy Support
For students requiring additional support with reading, writing, comprehension, or language skills, our literacy tutors provide focused small group and individual intervention sessions. These sessions include strategies to improve vocabulary, grammar, essay writing, and exam preparation.
Numeracy Support
Our numeracy tutors assist students experiencing difficulty with mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and application. Through small group and individual intervention sessions, students receive hands-on guidance to build confidence and develop basic numeracy skills.
Study and Organisational Skills
Effective study habits and organisational skills are critical for academic success. We offer support and mentor coaching for time management, note-taking, revision techniques, and goal setting to help students manage their workload efficiently.
Inclusive and Supportive Environment
We foster a welcoming atmosphere where diversity is respected, and every student feels valued. Our staff are trained to recognise and accommodate different learning needs, ensuring inclusive participation in all school activities.
Collaboration with Teachers and Families
Communication is key to student success. We maintain regular contact with classroom teachers and families to monitor progress, adjust support strategies, and celebrate achievements.
