Industrial Arts

Industrial Technology Timber/Metal

The practical subjects are well regarded and popular with many of Blayney High students as along with the subject theory, students gain many skills working with timber and or metal in a cohesive and supportive environment to develop their own projects.

Course details

Students in Yrs 7 & 8 within the subject of Design and Technology, develop their hand skills whilst producing a smaller project over a school term. They also develop a folio of their work directly related to their project to enhance students’ knowledge of the design process which is then built on in future years.

Many students thinking of gaining apprenticeships in the joinery or building industries often choose the subject Timber Products and Furniture Technologies for their HSC years. The HSC Major Design Project sees students choosing and developing their own projects along with a Major Design Folio to complement their project.

The TAS (Technology and Applied Studies) department also actively support our local community wherever possible. For example, a combination of Yr 8 and 9 students collectively constructed twenty bird nesting boxes for Blayney Shire Council to install along the nature walk at Uralba Nursing Home in nearby Carcoar.
